Northern Michigan University has named Dylan Chmura as its interim head coach. He is a former B1G player at Michigan State, student assistant and graduate assistant at Iowa.

Northern Michigan is a DII school out of Marquette, Michigan, and plays in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Chmura played at Michigan State from 2013-2016 but was a student coach during the last 2 seasons of eligibility because of concussion concerns.

Chmura joined Iowa’s staff in 2019. While with the Hawkeyes, he assisted with the offensive line in 2019-20.

Iowa went 6-2 during the shortened pandemic 2020 season, while Chmura was on staff, finishing No. 15 in the final College Football Playoff ranking. The Hawkeyes’ bowl game (Music City Bowl) against Missouri was canceled that season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chmura also spent time on the Fresno State staff during the 2017 and 2018 seasons. He worked with the offensive line for the Bulldogs during those two seasons.

Chmura was most recently the offensive coordinator for Northern Michigan before taking over as the interim head coach.

The Wildcats finished the season 4-7 and 1-5 in conference play. They won their final game against Lake Eerie College 33-11.
