A day after Mark Dantonio announced that Michigan State will be without its most experienced cornerback for several weeks, the Spartans got some injury news in their favor.

Oregon, who will take on Michigan State in Week 2, will be without running back Thomas Tyner, according to Comcast Sportsnet’s Aaron Fentress.

Tyner reportedly underwent successful surgery and is expected to miss all of 2015. He finished third on the team in rushing last year behind Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota and Royce Freeman. Tyner was expected to compete for the starting job in fall camp.

In Oregon’s 46-27 win against Michigan State last year, Tyner ran for 33 yards and a touchdown. The Ducks will make the trip to East Lansing this year.
