Payton Thorne has had no problems connecting with Jayden Reed this season. It’s the other receivers that he’s had issues with per Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press.

Thorne has 445 yards passing with 3 touchdowns so far this season. He has also thrown 3 interceptions, though. Reed has caught 8 passes for 107 yards receiving so far.

The Michigan State QB said that he’s still trying to get his timing down with the other receivers in East Lansing. The Spartans will need their QB at his best against the first Power 5 matchup of the season, as the team plays Washington on Saturday. After that, Michigan State opens conference play against Minnesota on Sept. 24.

“It’s definitely a work in progress,” said Thorne. “We’re still looking to get better with our connections.”

On the running side of the Michigan State offense, things have been working out pretty well after losing Kenneth Walker III to the NFL. Jalen Berger and Jarek Broussard have 362 combined yards rushing as the running back tandem in Mel Tucker’s offense.

The Spartans are going to need a more balanced attack to build off of last year’s 11-2 record though.
