Perfectionist? Mel Tucker says Michigan State isn't where it needs to be despite 4-0 start
To say Michigan State is off to a hot start would be an understatement.
The Spartans are rolling, starting the season 4-0 for the first time since 2015. They have the 4th-highest scoring offense in the B1G, the league’s leading rusher in Kenneth Walker III and they’ve jumped into the AP Top 25.
So things appear to be going well for Michigan State, right? If you ask Mel Tucker, it’s still not good enough. He wants his team to be even better.
Tucker: "I can't think of any reason, any rationale reason, why anyone in our organization … would be looking past a team or feeling unreasonably good about where we are."

Tucker: "Easing up or being complacent or taking it easy? That's a trait that doesn't exist on our staff. We're desperate to get better."

Michigan State managed to pull out a win against Nebraska in overtime last week, and Tucker wasn’t thrilled with the performance. With a non-conference matchup looming with Western Kentucky this week, the Spartans have a good chance to be 5-0 heading into the heat of B1G play.
Would 5-0 be good enough for Tucker? We’ll just have to see how they play this week.
