Teams beware: No lead in the B1G Tournament is going to be safe. At least, not if the first few days of action are any indication.

Early in the day Thursday, Michigan let a huge second-half lead slip through its hands. In the end, the Wolverines lost to fellow bubble team Indiana in a dramatic turnaround.

In Thursday evening’s game between 7-seed Michigan State and 10-seed Maryland, it was nearly a repeat of that earlier game. The Spartans carried a 9-point lead into halftime and led by as many as 20 points in the second half.

Then, the Terrapins turned it around. Behind a full-court press and the play of Fatts Russell, Maryland cut the deficit to 2 points at 70-68 with a minute left to play.

The Terrapins also cut it to 74-72 with 17 seconds left and forced a turnover to get another shot at tying or winning the game. Russell was able to get a clean look at a go-ahead 3-point field goal, but his try was a bit deep. Max Christie secured the rebound and drilled 2 free-throws to give Michigan State the win.

In the end, Christie shined for the Spartans with an efficient 16 points and 6 rebounds. Gabe Brown added 13 points and Tyson Walker had 9 points and a clutch bucket late in the win.

Russell led all scorers with 20 points for the Terrapins to go with 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Eric Ayala added 17 points but also struggled shooting the ball, going 5-for-17 from the field. Donta Scott and Hakim Hart also hit double figures for Maryland.

Michigan State will advance to face 2-seed and co-regular season champs Wisconsin on Friday evening. That game is slated for 6:30 pm EST on BTN.
