Former Michigan State President Lou Anna Simon has been charged with two felonies for lying to police in regards to the Larry Nassar case, according to multiple reports.

According to the Lansing State Journal, Simon was charged on Tuesday on two felony counts and two misdemeanor counts. If convicted, she could face up to four years in prison.

She is the third person charged by the Michigan Attorney General’s Office as it investigates the university.

Simon stepped down as Michigan State’s president shortly after Nassar was sentenced to prison for sexual abuse. She had been the school’s president since 2005.

Michigan State interim President John Engler issued a statement following Simon being charged. He said MSU is “aware of the charges brought today against former President Simon” and that she is “taking an immediate leave of absence, without pay, to focus on her legal situation.”

The Michigan Attorney General’s Office announced its investigation into the university’s handling of the Larry Nassar situation in January.
