Malik McDowell has received his sentence for charges stemming from a February incident.

According to Kirkland Crawford with the Detroit Free Press, McDowell was sentenced to nearly three months of jail time on Wednesday. That sentencing comes following a guilty plea in October to charges of resisting arrest, operating while intoxicated, and possessing a stolen vehicle.

In total, McDowell was sentenced to 153 days, but he will be credited with 66 days’ time served. There was also one very peculiar detail to his sentencing: homework.

According to Crawford, McDowell has also been tasked with completing three essays as a part of his sentencing:

Warren assigned McDowell to write three separate essays, all due within 90 days. The subject of the essays: finding the meaning in life other than committing crimes; the importance of respecting the rule of law and the principle of the declaration of independence and how your behavior undermines them.

All of the essays must be at least 750 words.

That’s definitely one interesting punishment.

McDowell played three seasons with the Spartans. He finished his career with 24.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, and was a member of Michigan State’s 2015 College Football Playoff team.
