Michigan State will be one of eight teams to participate in the Battle 4 Atlantis during the 2021-22 season, according to a report.

Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported on Thursday that the Spartans will participate in the 2021 event. It will be the second time Michigan State has played in the Battle 4 Atlantis, with a previous appearance coming in 2016.

Along with Michigan State, six other teams have been announced as participants: UConn, Syracuse, Arizona State, Auburn, VCU and Loyola-Chicago. The eighth team is still currently being decided, Rothstein says.

Michigan State finished in third place in the 2016 Battle 4 Atlantis. The Spartans defeated St. John’s 73-62 in the opening round. In the semifinals, MSU dropped a 73-58 contest to Baylor before defeating Wichita State 77-72 in the third-place game.

The Battle 4 Atlantis began during the 2011 season and two B1G teams have won the tournament. Wisconsin claimed the title in 2014 while Michigan was the winner of last year’s event.
