When the Michigan State Spartans name a new athletic director on Monday, it’ll be someone the school is quite familiar with.

That’s because, according to a report from the Detroit Free Press, the Spartans will simply take the interim tag away from current interim AD Bill Beekman.

According to the report, sources have confirmed that Beekman will become the school’s permanent athletic director:

Michigan State University will take the interim away from Bill Beekman’s title and make him the permanent athletic director at the school, two sources close to interim president John Engler told the Free Press on Friday.

Beekman took over when Mark Hollis resigned following the Larry Nassar allegations.

This is an interesting move for a couple of reasons. First, interim president John Engler had said no internal candidates would be considered. Second, Beekman has no athletics management experience.

The Spartans seem happy with the work he’s done in the past few months, though, so he’ll have a chance to prove himself starting this academic year.
