A heavily-recruited defensive back out of SEC country is heading to East Lansing.

Saturday, Michigan State received a verbal pledge from 3-star safety Quavian Carter, a member of the 2022 recruiting class. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound defensive back received more than a dozen offers on the recruiting trail, but picked the Spartans after a visit to East Lansing on June 11.

Carter made his announcement with a post on Instagram following his visit to Michigan State. He becomes the sixth player to commit to the program and is currently the second-highest-rated player to pledge to Mel Tucker and Co.

247Sports Composite Rankings has Carter listed as the No. 39 safety in the class. A native of Leesburg, he’s also tabbed as the No. 62 prospect from the state of Georgia.

Several big-time programs extended an offer to Carter during the recruiting process. He picked Michigan State over Clemson, Penn State, Michigan, Florida State, Ole Miss, Boston College, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Tennessee and Louisville.

Michigan State’s current highest-ranked prospect in the 2022 class is another Georgia safety, Malik Spencer. Carter comes in at No. 2 among current Spartan pledges.

Michigan State’s class currently sits at No. 7 in the B1G and No. 32 nationally.
