Sam Leavitt is indeed leaving Michigan State via the transfer portal after one season in East Lansing. Arizona State landed the key piece to the quarterback room out of the transfer portal with Leavitt’s Monday commitment.
The former Big Ten QB was a 4-star recruit in the class of 2023. He appeared in 4 games to maintain an extra year of eligibility and provided some flashes while on the field.

Leavitt finished the year with 139 passing yards while completing 15-of-23 passes with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. He also had 67 rushing yards. His best game came in the loss to Minnesota when Leavitt set career-high marks with 73 passing yards and 52 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Coming out of high school, Leavitt was a key prospect on the West Coast. The 247 Sports Composite rated him as the top player out of Oregon for 2023 and the No. 21 QB in the country.
After Michigan State hired former Oregon State head coach Jonathan Smith, Leavitt was one of three Spartan QBs to hit the portal. He is the first of that group to reach a decision with Noah Kim and Katin Houser still investigating their options.
