A third member of Mel Tucker’s staff at Colorado will be making the move to East Lansing with the head coach.

Friday, 247Sports reported that Ross Els will be joining the staff at Michigan State. He had been at Colorado for the last three seasons, coaching inside linebackers and was also the special teams coordinator in 2019. His role with the Spartans is still unknown.

Els would become the third assistant to leave Colorado for Michigan State. Tucker has already hired Jay Johnson to be the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, as well as Chris Kapilovic to be the offensive line coach and run game coordinator.

Els brings B1G knowledge to East Lansing, having coached at both Nebraska and Purdue during his career. From 2011-14, Els was on Bo Pelini’s staff with the Huskers, serving as the linebackers coach and special teams coordinator. In 2016, he was hired to be the defensive coordinator and safeties coach at Purdue, where he spent one season.

With over 30 years of coaching experience under his belt, Els is another seasoned veteran who should be able to help Michigan State’s defense. He joins a defensive staff that includes Ron Turner, Mike Tressel and Harlon Barnett.
