Title IX investigation into Michigan State's sexual assault case concluded
Michigan State University has concluded it’s Title IX investigation into an alleged sexual assault case associated with the football program, according to a report from MLive.com.
The investigation, which was one of three that were launched, was conducted by Rebecca Veidlinger, an independent consultant who was hired by the school. Michigan State spokesperson Jason Cody announced the completion of the investigation on Monday evening.
Here are some notes from Kyle Austin of MLive.com about the investigation:
Speaking generally about Title IX investigations, Cody said there are two possible outcomes at the conclusion of an investigation. If no university policy violation is found, then the matter would be closed. If a policy violation was found, the case would then be sent to the school’s student conduct system.
The student conduct system could then levy any sanction ranging from a warning or probation to suspension or expulsion.
There are still two investigations ongoing regarding the alleged sexual assault. Michigan State is conducting a criminal investigation, as well as a separate investigation into football program staff members’ compliance with university policy.
Michigan State will not release any findings or outcomes from the Title IX investigation, due to federal privacy law.
