Tom Izzo and Michigan State fell to Purdue in the closing moments of a back-and-forth game on Monday. Though the Spartans dialed up a massive effort, it was not enough to come out with the win at the end.

One of the moments that generated a reaction from that game involved a rebound battle between Mady Sissoko and Zach Edey. After both players went up for the rebound, Edey came down with the ball — and Sissoko’s arm — while slinging the big man to the floor. While the play closely resembled a “hook-and-hold” situation by Edey, the foul call went on Sissoko.

The usually animated Izzo was more reserved than expected following that play. During his Wednesday radio show, the head coach admitted it was because he did not see the play happen live.

“There was a foul as Tyson Walker went up to shoot… and then the official got in my way. I didn’t even see it,” said Izzo of the collision between Sissoko and Edey. “You can bet if I had seen, I’d have put a saddle on that guy and rode him. But I didn’t even see it so you didn’t see me go crazy about that…

“I don’t know what (the official) was thinking. I did not see it until after the game, and that’s a good thing.”
