Tom Izzo discusses late cancellation of Michigan State-Michigan rivalry game due to COVID-19
Michigan and Michigan State basketball had a game postponed due to COVID-19 related issues. The game originally slated for this past Saturday has yet to have a rescheduled date.
Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo had a press conference on Monday morning talking mainly about how the communication with him and Michigan went regarding the game’s postponement. According to Izzo, he was pleased with the communication between Michigan coach Juwan Howard and how the Wolverines handled the issues on their side.
In terms of finding a makeup date, Izzo believes it will be difficult for the 2 sides due to the setup for the 2021-22 basketball schedule.
Here is everything that Michigan State’s head coach had to say about the postponement.
Izzo said he had good communication with Juwan Howard last weekend regarding the COVID issues. Said he’s unsure if there was the same communication from an “administration standpoint.”

Izzo says he “was very happy with the communication from Juwan” Howard, Michigan’s coach. “I just think from administration standpoint that we should have more clarity on everything.”

Izzo: “I don’t know if some of these games are going to be rescheduled.” Calls it a “weird situation” and says players should possibly be able to maintain a redshirt if they need to play.

Izzo on the Big Ten rule for COVID postponements: “We can play with one coach and seven guys. But then there’s some leeway in there.”

Izzo saying he thinks finding a date that works for both MSU and Michigan for a reschedule will probably be difficult.

Izzo: “I’m gonna play every game I can play.” Hopes the rest of the Big Ten will do that as well. “I just don’t know how they plan on doing this. It’s gonna be hard.”
