Tom Izzo discusses much improved B1G depth, challenges of schedule in league play
Tom Izzo’s squad has had an up-and-down season so far. After picking up a big win early in the season against Kentucky, Michigan State has seen bad losses to Notre Dame and Northwestern.
On Monday, Izzo talked about the state of the B1G and how much better it has gotten over the years since he started coaching the Spartans.
“It just maybe doesn’t have quite the star power,” Izzo said. “There are so many teams who are playing better teams too.”
The depth of the B1G is certainly showing early in conference play and Izzo said the schedule has been “bizarre,” with quick turnarounds in between games. He said that this season his team has had “a lot of quick turnarounds for new teams we’re gonna play” for the first time this season.
Though the schedule might pose some challenges, Izzo also believes one of the main ways his team can improve is in their shooting.
The Spartans take on Wisconsin on Tuesday night.
Tom Izzo says the league is better today than it was back when he first started coaching.
“It just maybe doesn’t have quite the star power. There are so many teams who are playing better teams too.”
MSU can not just expect to go anywhere in the conference and win.

MSU coach Tom Izzo at the podium, says the schedule is "bizarre" but even with a quick turnaround, the Spartans need to start shooting the ball better. Leave for Wisconsin today. "A lot of quick turnarounds for new teams we're gonna play" for the first time this season.
