Tom Izzo discusses possibility of 2 Spartan football players joining MSU basketball
Michigan State football just wrapped up its season with a win in the Peach Bowl. Now, 2 Spartan players have the possibility of joining Michigan State basketball.
On Monday, Tom Izzo touched on the possibility of wide receiver Keon Coleman and tight end Maliq Carr suiting up for the Spartans on the hardwood. According to Izzo, there are a number of factors in play, including the possibility that both Coleman and Carr could be key players for the football team in the fall.
Izzo went on to explain that he and Mel Tucker will first discuss the situation before Tucker discusses it with the players.
Izzo says the decision will be made first between him and Tucker, then Tucker and the players. Calls it “a family decision.” He also is cognizant of their future in football as well, since both could play big roles in the fall for the Spartans.

Coleman was a true freshman this season and recorded 7 catches for 50 yards and a touchdown, including 2 catches for 20 yards in the Peach Bowl. Carr is a redshirt freshman who transferred to Michigan State after 1 season at Purdue. He finished 2021 with 8 catches for 135 yards, including 2 catches for 35 yards in the Peach Bowl.
Fans will have to stay tuned to find out if the 6-foot-4 duo suits up for Izzo this season.
