Tom Izzo provides update on possibility of 2 Spartan football players joining MSU basketball
Michigan State basketball is off to a 5-0 start to conference play this season. The Spartans recorded their 5th B1G win Wednesday evening after netting a game-winning bucket in the closing seconds of the game.
Now, Michigan State is adding 2 Spartan football payers to basketball practices. According to head coach Tom Izzo, Keon Coleman and Maliq Carr will be practicing with the Spartans for a few weeks to see if the pair are a good fit on the hardwood.
Matt Charboneau with The Detroit News shared Izzo’s comments.
Keon Coleman and Maliq Carr practicing today with MSU hoops. Tom Izzo says it’s essentially a “trial” for a couple weeks to see if it’s a good fit.

After the first of the year, Izzo had said he and Mel Tucker would discuss the availability of Coleman and Carr. Izzo said the initial decision would be between himself and Tucker and then between Tucker and the players.
If Coleman and Carr are practicing with the hoops team, it at least sounds like the plan is progressing. Whether or not they see any minutes remains to be seen.
