It wasn’t pretty down the stretch of the season for Michigan State and a chance to maintain a blowout win over Maryland proved more difficult than necessary. In the end, the Spartans did knock off Maryland 77-67, giving Tom Izzo an illustrious record in the process.

With the win, Izzo has officially passed Bob Knight for the most wins by a B1G head coach. Izzo previously tied Knight’s record with win No. 662 in the upset of Purdue.

Now, Izzo has the all-time record all to himself with win No. 663 over the Terrapins.

A big key down the stretch for Michigan State was the contributions of Malik Hall off the bench. At one point, Hall posted 7 straight points for the Spartans, punctuated with a spinning and-one layup in brilliant fashion.

Hall finished the game with a team-high 17 points on 7-for-11 shooting. Tyson Walker, Marcus Bingham Jr. and Gabe Brown also scored in double figures as the Spartans ended a two-game losing streak.

Maryland was led by Eric Ayala with a game-high 19 points while Fatts Russell added 16 points and 3 steals. Unfortunately for the Terrapins, they end a wild season 15-16 overall and 7-13 in conference play. They will need a miraculous run through the B1G Tournament in order to make the NCAA Tournament.
