After leaving the Arizona State game early and missing all of Michigan State’s B1G opener against Indiana on Saturday, L.J. Scott is likely to return to the backfield this weekend against Central Michigan.

Tuesday morning, Michigan State released its depth chart for Saturday’s in-state battle. Scott was listed as the team’s starter for the matchup.

Scott suffered a leg injury during the Spartans’ Week 2 battle with Arizona State.

Scott’s return is good news for the Spartans, who have struggled to run the football early this season. After three games, Michigan State ranks 13th in the B1G in ground production, averaging just 119.7 yards per game.

In the season opener against Utah State, Scott took 23 handoffs for 84 yards. Against Arizona State, he had 19 yards on seven touches. As a team, Michigan State is averaging just 3.3 yards per carry.

Last year, Scott was the team’s leading rusher, totaling 898 yards and eight touchdowns.

Saturday’s matchup against Central Michigan serves as the final non-conference game of the year for Michigan State. It’s also the team’s first home game since opening the year against Utah State on Aug. 31.
