Cody White has had a breakout season as a freshman. And he’s looking to put an exclamation point on his first season at Michigan State.
White set Michigan State’s record for most receiving yards for a true freshman this year and was one of the most reliable targets in the passing game all season long. He was equally as effective early in the Holiday Bowl against Washington State, making a few big plays to help get the Spartans on the scoreboard.
Trailing 3-0 in the second quarter, Michigan State put together its best offensive possession of the half, thanks in large part to the effort from White. The freshman receiver hauled in an impressive catch while surrounded by three Cougar defenders. A few plays later, quarterback Brian Lewerke found White in the end zone for a touchdown.

That touchdown gave the Spartans a 7-3 lead in the second quarter.
White was Michigan State’s third-best receiver statistically this season, totaling 449 yards and two touchdowns on 32 receptions this season. He was stellar in the Spartans game against Northwester, hauling in nine passes for 165 yards and a pair of scores.
He’s already off to good start in the Holiday Bowl.
