This is the spark the Spartans were looking for!

Michigan State has gotten off to a slow start against Central Michigan as the team is dealing with the absence of RB L.J. Scott. There was some hope Scott could go against the Chippewas, but he has not yet played in the game.

The offense has stalled out on multiple drives and a red zone interception by QB Brian Lewerke kept MSU scoreless early on. As a result, the Spartans ended the first quarter trailing by a score of 3-0.

Fortunately, the defense came up with a big play to spark the offense a bit in the second quarter. David Dowell came up with a big interception just moments after committing a costly pass interference penalty. He returned the pick into CMU territory for the Spartans’ first bit of momentum in the game.

Michigan State on BTN shared the video of Dowell’s play:

The offense did not waste the possession as Lewerke made up for his earlier miscue with a rushing touchdown to give the Spartans a 7-3 lead:

Can MSU shake off the rust and put the Chippewas away?
