You can count on something crazy happening just about every week of the college football season. One of the flukiest plays of the year might’ve just happened in College Park.

The fourth quarter of Saturday’s game between Michigan State and Maryland saw something truly ridiculous.

Leading 17-3, Michigan State quarterback Rocky Lombardi attempted to pick up a first down through the air. A Maryland defender was able to deflect the pass and Byron Cowart hauled in an interception. He appeared to be headed to the end zone to close the gap on the Spartans.

However, Spartans receiver Darrell Stewart Jr. forced a fumble into the end zone and Matt Dotson recovered the football.

Talk about a momentum swing.

One play later, Connor Heyward sprinted 80 yards to the end zone, giving Michigan State a 24-3 lead and essentially ending the game.

Heyward’s run was his second score of the day and put the MSU running back over 150 yards for the day.

That play from Stewart was easily the play of the day for the Spartans. It was also one of the weirdest plays of the college football season.
