Matt Coghlin has accounted for a lot of points in his career at Michigan State. But the six he scored in the fourth quarter of the Spartans’ 35-21 win over Indiana might be the most special.

That’s because the Coghlin, the team’s kicker got into the end zone in the team’s B1G opener on Saturday night.

Mark Dantonio and the Spartans opened up the playbook a little bit inside the red zone, attempting a fake field goal near the Indiana end zone. Out of the fake, Michigan State ran an option play that resulted in Coghlin catching a pitch and racing toward the end zone.

And he got in.

Not surprisingly, it was the first touchdown of Coghlin’s career.

After celebrating the touchdown, Coghlin then lined up and converted on the extra point. The kick was dangerously close to the upright, though.

So yeah, Coghlin has accounted for a lot of points in his Michigan State career. But that touchdown is going to be hard to top.
