WATCH: This go-ahead field goal attempt from Michigan State was unbelievably awful

Matt Coghlin was one of the most sure-footed kickers in the B1G this season. Through the regular season, the Michigan State kicker converted on 16-of-19 attempts.

But two of his more important tries this season didn’t find the uprights. And his final attempt of the 2018 season didn’t even actually happen.

In Monday’s Redbox Bowl against Oregon, Coghlin was lined up for a 50-yard field goal attempt with less than two minutes remaining. Trailing 7-6, the kick would’ve give the Spartans a 9-7 lead with around 90 seconds left in the game.

Quarterback Brian Lewerke mishandled the snap and Coghlin wasn’t able to put a leg into the football. The result was one of the more disastrous plays of the college football season.

Lewerke scrambled around, trying to find a receiver down the field. But he was unable to get the throw off and ending the drive.

Michigan State lost 7-6 to Oregon in the Redbox Bowl, falling to 7-6 on the season.

It was another awful offensive performance for the Spartans but this might’ve been the worst play of the day. Maybe even the season.
