There are two guarantees when we reach this time of year: Michigan State will be ranked in college basketball’s top 25 and Tom Izzo is going to play Christmas carols on his accordion.
Currently, the Spartans are ranked No. 10 in the latest Associated Press poll, boasting a 9-2 record for the year. And on Monday night, Izzo broke out his accordion, much to the delight of dozens of Spartans fans.
It’s an annual tradition for Izzo this time of year, and his skills on the instrument have even been featured on ESPN in the past. This time, though, the Michigan State head coach performed for a local crowd.
Ryan Cole of WDBM Sports captured Izzo playing “Jingle Bells” to get folks in the holiday spirit.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Tom Izzo practiced his accordion two times this year by the way, up from one time last year. pic.twitter.com/Q7bEp9keGu

Izzo practiced a few times before breaking it out this year and produced a pretty good sound.
There aren’t many Hall of Fame basketball coaches who have that kind of skill on a musical instrument.
