What Michigan State HC Mel Tucker said during his National Signing Day press conference
Spartans head coach Mel Tucker touched on numerous topics during his National Signing Day presser, which included wide receiver Keon Coleman and cornerbacks coach Travares Tillman.
The Spartans landed Coleman on Wednesday morning after he had over 40 scholarship offers. The list of schools to offer him included: Georgia, USC, and Texas. He’s also going to walk-on to the basketball program as Tom Izzo was huge in his recruitment as well.
Tucker also touched on how today isn’t the end for bringing players in. He wants to bring players in all the way up until fall camp starts.
With the offseason in full swing, here’s Tucker’s full quotes from his presser today:
Mel Tucker on Keon Coleman: "He’s a legitimate basketball player. He can really light it up out there. He’s a two-sport athlete. There’s not a ton of guys out there who can do that at the Power Five level."

Mel Tucker on new cornerbacks Travares Tillman:
"He has excellent recruiting ties in the south. Georgia is obviously a place where we spend a lot of time recruiting."

"I really believe in having the DBs meet together as much as possible. …When all the DBs are together, Harlon (Barnett) will run the show. When they split up, Travares (Tillman) will take the corners and Harlon will take the safeties."
