Xavier Tillman has turned into a versatile contributor off the bench as a rookie for the Memphis Grizzlies.

The former Michigan State star was selected by the Grizzlies in the second round of the 2020 NBA Draft, and he is putting in solid numbers off the bench. For the season, Tillman averaged 6.6 points and 4.3 rebounds while averaging just over 18 minutes per game. However, he turned in a big performance late on Friday night.

With the Grizzlies taking on the Golden State Warriors in the play-in tournament for the NBA Playoffs, the two teams went into overtime with the game locked at 99-all. In the overtime period, Tillman produced two key moments.

He started the period by getting an offensive rebound and putback, but his clutch moment came when Memphis fell behind 109-107 with a minute and a half left to play. It looked like the Warriors might build off that lead, forcing the Grizzlies late into the shot clock and near a violation.

That is when Tillman pulled a three-pointer from the corner, barely beating the buzzer and netting the go-ahead bucket. His shot gave the Grizzlies a lead they would not give back, finishing with a 117-112 win over the Warriors.

For the game, Tillman finished with 11 points, seven rebounds, an assist, a block, and three steals.

After the game, former Michigan State teammate Jaren Jackson Jr. who scored 10 points in the win shared his thoughts on Tillman’s performance:

Hopefully the Spartan duo gets a chance for even bigger performances during the playoffs.
