Athan Kaliakmanis, Minnesota’s high potential freshman quarterback, was helped off the field following an injury in the 2nd quarter of the Pinstripe Bowl against Syracuse Thursday.

Kaliakmanis went down after a late hit, what appeared to be a lower body injury. Veteran backup Tanner Morgan, Minnesota’s longtime starter, is in the game for the Gophers in the interim.

There has been no immediate update on Kaliakmanis’ status.

He was off to a good start, too. Kaliakmanis was 7-9 with 80 passing yards and a touchdown drive early in Minnesota’s game against the Orange.

Minnesota looks to still be humming without their signal caller in the game, though. Tanner Morgan confidently led the Gophers to a touchdown a few player later, hitting Daniel Jackson in the back corner of the end zone for 6. And what a throw it was, too.

Minnesota leads, 14-0 with just over 6 minutes remaining in the game.
