The B1G office has recognized the officiating blunder from Saturday’s matchup between Minnesota and Ohio State.

In the first quarter of Saturday’s game, Buckeyes running back Mike Weber lunged forward on a fourth down play, attempting to reach the first down marker. His elbow appeared to hit the ground short of the line to gain, but officials awarded Ohio State with the first down.

There was no measurement and Dwayne Haskins threw a touchdown pass on the very next play.

Minnesota head coach P.J. Fleck sent the play into the B1G office and it confirmed that the spot should’ve been reviewed.

“We should have measured,” is the comment Fleck received from the B1G office regarding the play. “They came back and basically said, ‘We’re sorry.'”

Fleck said he asked for a measurement immediately following the play but the officials refused to review it.

“I’m checking with the official, and he’s like, ‘No way, way.’ Almost like, ‘leave me alone,'” Fleck said, according to the Star Tribune. “We turned it into the officials, and they said ‘Yes, we should have measured.'”

Minnesota put up an incredible fight against Ohio State, pushing the Buckeyes all four quarters. The Gophers couldn’t muster enough offense to pull off the upset though, falling 30-14.

A review of that spot could’ve been a huge momentum-changing play. But we’ll never know if it would’ve made a difference in the outcome.
