For the first time in 2016, Shannon Brooks is on the Minnesota depth chart.

The sophomore tailback, who has been out since suffering a foot injury in training camp, could return to action this week against Colorado State.

Brooks was listed as the No. 3 tailback behind Rodney Smith and Kobe McCrary on the pre-Colorado State depth chart.

The original timetable for the injury was 3-5 weeks, but the Gophers elected to play it safe and hold Brooks out through the bye week. He hadn’t been cleared to play as of the last time Minnesota took the field, which was against Indiana State on Sept. 10.

The Gophers have actually fared well without the talented sophomore. Smith has 199 yards and three touchdowns while McCrary has 180 yards and two scores of his own on just 18 carries through two games.

With Brooks still listed behind both of them, he’ll likely be on a limited snap count if he sees the field on Saturday.

The Gophers are looking to get off to their first 3-0 start since 2013. Kickoff is set for Saturday at 11 a.m. CT.
