BTN analysts weigh in on Minnesota's 4-0 start following win over Michigan State
BTN analysts Joshua E. Perry and Jake Butt talked about how well the Minnesota football program has done this season. P.J. Fleck has the Golden Gophers sitting pretty at 4-0.
Minnesota throttled Michigan State in East Lansing 34-7 on Saturday. Perry was impressed with how the Golden Gophers were able to do whatever they wanted to on offense, while complimenting the defense even though they didn’t see the field much.
Tanner Morgan had 283 yards passing with 3 touchdowns through the air, while Mohamed Ibrahim had no problems moving the ball on the ground with 103 yards rushing. The defense was able to force three turnovers as well.
“Whatever they wanted to get in that game, they got it,” said Perry. “Started off throwing the football. Nothing too explosive down the field. I don’t think they had more than 2 or 3 plays that went for 20+ plus. Defensively, they’re barely on the field, but that is a phenomenal defense.”
Butt focused more on the lack of respect that Minnesota is getting from around the country. Butt stated that he would like this if he was a Minnesota fan, because of much easier it is to motivate your team in this situation.
The Golden Gophers are currently ranked 21st in the country.
“One thing I would say about Minnesota is that they’re not getting the respect they deserve,” said Butt. “If I’m a Minnesota fan, I’m cool with that. It’s a different game when you can pitch to your team that we’re being disrespected. The stars are aligning for Minnesota.”
Minnesota faces a B1G West opponent next with Purdue coming to town.
