Buyout figures for PJ Fleck's new contract extension revealed
On Wednesday, Minnesota head football coach PJ Fleck agreed to an amended 7-year, $35 million contract. The agreement is pending Board of Regents approval and will keep Fleck in control of the Gophers sideline through the 2028 season.
The amount is a raise of $350,000 from $4.6 million to $5 million. That makes Fleck tied for the 17th-highest paid among college football coaches, per a report by USA Today.
More information was released later in the day. Fleck’s buyout to leave during his first year is up to $10 million, and only drops to $7 million in Year 2 and to $5 million in Year 3.

Back in November of 2019, Fleck agreed to a new 7-year deal that increased his annual salary from $3.6 million to $4.6 million. At the time, his buyout to leave was $10 million, but dropped to $4.5 million this year.
Fleck and the Gophers host Illinois on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 12:00 PM at TCF Stadium in Minneapolis.
