Dawson Garcia attended high school in Minnesota, but ended up leaving the state to play at Marquette. Now he’s back and ready to build something with Minnesota basketball.

Garcia transferred to North Carolina after spending 1 season at Marquette. He’s averaged 11.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 0.7 assists throughout his career. Garcia talked about his journey so far with Pioneer Press’ Andy Greder.

“There are some highs, some lows, but at the end of the day, I got the Minnesota across my chest now and I look forward to building something special,” said Garcia.

Garcia was a former 4-star PF from the 2020 class out of Prior Lake, Minnesota per the 247Sports Composite. He was highly recruited and actually had an offer from Golden Gophers, but went with Marquette instead. Baylor, Indiana, and Memphis also had interest in him.

Regardless of all that, he’s now back in his home state and is ready to play for the Golden Gophers. Minnesota opens its 2022 season on Nov. 7 against Western Michigan.

That game tips off at 9 p.m. ET and doesn’t have a channel set for it yet.
