ESPN’s FPI is weighing in on the full Week 3 slate of college football. Around the B1G, that includes a number of nonconference matchups with Minnesota hitting the road for a major showdown.

This weekend, PJ Fleck and the Golden Gophers will head to North Carolina to face Mack Brown and his No. 20 Tar Heels. Saturday’s game will actually be the first all-time meeting between the two programs, and it should be a good one.

Minnesota’s defense will have its hands particularly full against the Tar Heel offense. The unit is led by a legitimate Heisman Trophy contender in Drake Maye, UNC’s star QB. Maye is also a potential top-5 pick in the NFL Draft as a player who can make every throw on the field.

If Maye alone is not intimidating enough, the Tar Heels have a running back in Omarion Hampton who just rushed for 234 yards in Week 2. As a team, UNC is averaging 243.5 rushing yards to go with Maye and the passing attack.

With those types of numbers, it is no surprise that the Tar Heels will be heavily favored in the game, particularly at home. The Football Power Index gives UNC a 72.9% chance of coming away with the Week 3 win to move to 3-0.

Can Minnesota pull off a road upset in the ACC? Saturday’s kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
