New York Jets linebacker Blake Cashman will pay tribute to a former teammate this week

Cashman is wearing his cleats this week in honor of Casey O’Brien, a redshirt sophomore at Minnesota. This May, it was announced that O’Brien had beaten Osteosarcoma, a bone cancer, for a fifth time.

O’Brien is a walk-on placeholder who participated in two games last year.

Cashman’s cleats are designed to honor O’Brien’s fight and his committment to beating cancer. The charity is the Team One Four Fund

Cashman was a fifth round draft pick of the Jets in the 2019 NFL Draft and was a multi-year starter for the Golden Gophers.

As a rookie he had 40 tackles included half-a-sack and three quarterback hits in seven games. Injuries have limited his impact this year.

Last year, O’Brien was honored with the Disney Spirit Award, presented annually to college football’s most inspirational figure.
