Former Minnesota guard Jamal Mashburn Jr. will be following former Gophers coach Richard Pitino to New Mexico.

Mashburn made that announcement on his Instagram account on Friday:

Mashburn spent just one season at Minnesota. As a freshman, he averaged 8.2 points and 1.6 assists per game. He was a 3-star recruit in the class of 2020, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

Of course, Mashburn Jr. is the son of Jamal Mashburn, who spent more than a decade in the NBA. He played for Dallas, Chicago, Miami and New Orleans from 1993-2004.

This has been an offseason full of turnover for the Gophers. In addition to parting ways with Pitino and his staff, the majority of Minnesota’s roster from lat season has moved or is planning to do so.

New coach Ben Johnson has already earned commitments from five incoming transfers. The most recent addition is Division II All-American Parker Fox.
