Former Minnesota coach Glen Mason is backing the Golden Gophers this weekend.

Mason went on KFAN1003 this week and predicted the Gophers will upset Ohio State in Minneapolis this weekend.

Mason, who coached Minnesota from 1997-2006, knows what it’s like to beat the Buckeyes. He was Minnesota’s coach for its last victory over Ohio State, which took place in 2000.

The Buckeyes have rattled off 10 straight wins over the Golden Gophers, plus a 2010 victory that has since been vacated. Ohio State holds the all-time series record advantage of 45-7.

Mason also has ties to Ohio State, having played linebacker for the Buckeyes from 1970-71.

Minnesota is trying to bounce back from a disappointing 2020 campaign. The Golden Gophers battled injuries and COVID-19 issues and are trying to get back to their 2019 form — when they won 11 games for the first time 1904.

Kick off is at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday night.
