Former Minnesota WR announces transfer to Big 12 team
Douglas Emilien is following the yellow brick road.
Monday, the former Minnesota wide receiver announced his decision to transfer to Kansas. He will join former teammate and running back Ky Thomas, who also entered the transfer portal following the 2021 season.
Emilien spent two seasons playing at Minnesota, appearing in two games, both coming in 2021. He will still have all four years of eligibility to use with the Jayhawks.
“Sacrifices I made I don’t regret!” Emilien wrote on Twitter. “New year, new team, never satisfied.”

A Florida native, Emilien received nearly two dozen offers on the recruiting trail as a high school recruit. He was a composite 3-star receiver in the 2020 class, per 247Sports. The receiver picked Minnesota over Boston College, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Kentucky, LSU, Maryland, Miami, NC State, Rutgers, Syracuse and other programs.
Thomas also decided to leave the Golden Gophers following the 2021 season after two years with the program. He rushed for 824 yards and 6 touchdowns during a 9-4 campaign.
The freshman running back committed to Kansas earlier this year. Though he was successful early in his career in the Twin Cities, there was a good chance he’d be buried on the depth chart with both Mohamed Ibrahim and Trey Potts returning in 2022.
