After Minnesota had to cancel the big-time rivalry game against Wisconsin this weekend due to a rise in COVID-19 cases within the program, the Badgers official football Twitter account wished the Gophers well.

It may seem like a small thing, but it’s a nice gesture between bitter rivals:

It obviously stinks for both teams that this game won’t be played as this was the longest uninterrupted series in FBS history.

This game being canceled also means that the Badgers can no longer win the Big Ten West division as they’ll have played in too few games to be eligible. They can only play a max of five games this season due to other cancelations they’ve had as well (Purdue, Nebraska).

For Minnesota, this will be their first canceled game and they still have games against Northwestern and Nebraska to finish off their season.

For Wisconsin, the Badgers have Indiana and Iowa to finish their season.

It really is a disappointment that one of the premier rivalries in the B1G will not get played in 2020, and that is evident in Wisconsin’s response to the Gophers. While the Badgers will retain the Axe with the game not being played, there really are no winners with this cancellation.
