Minnesota’s secondary is adding some depth.

Over the weekend, the Golden Gophers received a pledge from former Abilene Christian defensive back Ryan Stapp, a 6-foot, 170-pound native of College Station, Texas. He made his announcement with a post on Twitter on Saturday.

“First off I would like to thank God, my family and the entire Abilene Christian coaching staff and community for helping me get to this point,” Stapp wrote. “With that being said I am 11-% committed to the University of Minnesota!! RTB!!”

Stapp just completed his redshirt sophomore season at Abilene Christian, posting some impressive numbers. During the 2021 campaign, the defensive back was credited with 44 tackles, including 4.5 for loss. Stapp was also responsible for 10 pass break-ups, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and an interception.

Abilene Christian, which competes at the FCS level, finished the year with a 5-6 record.

Minnesota is coming off an 8-4 regular season in 2021, earning a trip to the Guaranteed Rate Bowl. The Golden Gophers will take on West Virginia in an attempt to put a ninth tally in the win column.
