Minnesota crossed the border into a rival state to land its most recent recruit in the 2020 class.

Wednesday night, Wisconsin linebacker Lucas Finnessy gave his verbal pledge to the Golden Gophers, becoming the seventh player to join the class. He made the announcement through Twitter.

“As a kid, I always dreamed of playing football at the next level, now it’s time to pursue that dream,” Finnessy wrote. “With that being said, I would like to announce that I am committing to the University of Minnesota.”

Finnessy is a three-star linebacker out of Sussex, Wisc. and becomes the second linebacker to commit to the Gophers. Juwan Mitchell is the other linebacker to give his verbal commitmen to P.J. Fleck and Co.

In addition to Minnesota, Finnessy had offers from Ball State, North Dakota State, Illinois State and Miami (OH), among others.

With seven prospects in the 2020 class, the Gophers rank 22nd nationally and sixth in the B1G.
