Entering Saturday’s game Minnesota was the underdog, despite hosting a Nebraska team that hadn’t beat the Gophers since 2018. But Gophers quarterback Tanner Morgan had other plans, and after a first half that saw the senior QB complete 14-of-15 passes for 171 yards and 2 touchdowns, Morgan has the Gophers up 21-9 at the half.

Despite the Huskers being without a win in TCF Bank Stadium since 2015, Nebraska was over a 4-point favorite entering the game.

Much of the reason is the depleted Minnesota roster, that after losing Mo Ibrahim in the season opener with Ohio State suffered another hit with the loss of his backup, Trey Potts. Potts left the Gophers game with Purdue with an undisclosed injury and will not return for the remainder of the season.

The Gophers entered Saturday’s game ranked ninth in the conference in points per game and 12th in yards per game, and without Potts, concerns over things getting worse were there.

Clearly, Morgan decided to take it into his own hands through the air — we’ll see if it continues in the 2nd half.
