Governor of Minnesota proclaims special holiday to honor Gophers' 8-0 start
Minnesota’s unbelievable start to the football season will now be honored state-wide, thanks to a proclamation made by Governor Tim Walz.
This week, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz declared Friday, Nov. 8, 2019 Maroon and Gold Friday to celebrate the Golden Gophers’ 8-0 start to the college football season. The proclamation comes a day before No. 17 Minnesota hosts No. 4 Penn State at TCF Bank Stadium in a battle of B1G unbeatens.

Minnesota is off to its best start since the 1940s, sitting at 8-0 on the regular season and 5-0 in B1G play. The Golden Gophers have also won 10 straight games, dating back to the 2018 season.
Despite the 8-0 start, the Gophers were ranked at No. 17 in the College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday night. A win over Penn State would certainly be a boost to the resumé.
With games against Iowa and Wisconsin still remaining, as well, Minnesota controls its own destiny in the B1G West.
