Amir Coffey didn’t hear his name called during the NBA Draft last month, but the former Minnesota star is trying to prove he belongs on a roster. He got off to a solid start in the Summer League.

Saturday, Coffey and the Los Angeles Clippers battled the Los Angeles Lakers in the Summer League opener in Vegas. The ex-Gopher got off to a hot start, scoring 15 first half points to give the Clippers a 46-37 advantage at the half.

Coffey quieted down a bit in the second half, but still had a well-balanced performance, ending the night with 17 points, five rebounds and four assists. He also registered a steal as the Clippers defeated the Lakers 93-87.

Below are some of the highlights from Coffey’s big first half on Saturday.

Coffey went undrafted but was inked by the Clippers to play during the Summer League. He’ll continue to work to see if he can carve out a roster spot at the professional level, or maybe in the G League.

In his final season with the Gophers, Coffey averaged 16.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. He declared for the NBA after his junior year.
