Joe Rossi, Minnesota DC, received insight from LB Mariano Sori-Marin on game plan for Michigan State
Joe Rossi has been with Minnesota football since 2017, and doesn’t shy away from getting advice from his players apparently. Andy Greder of the Pioneer Press posted about what happened.
Rossi wanted feedback from senior LB Mariano Sori-Marin about a few options for one part of his game plan for Michigan State. Sori-Marin is one of the more experienced members of the Minnesota defense, and started in all 13 games last season.
So far this season Sori-Marin has 16 total, 7 solo, and 9 assisted tackles. It might be a little unorthodox to ask players for help with the game plan, but we’ll see if it pays off for the Golden Gophers.
Michigan State is coming off of a loss to Washington away from home, and will be ready to turn things around against Minnesota. P.J. Fleck has made it clear who the blame will be on as he joked about Rossi’s decision on KFAN radio in Minnesota.
“It’s his fault if it doesn’t work,” said Fleck.
Fans will get to see how it all pans out as Minnesota kicks off against Michigan State Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on BTN.
Anecdote: #Gophers defensive coordinator Joe Rossi sought feedback from linebacker Mariano Sori-Marin on a few options for one thing in the game plan vs. Michigan State. PJ Fleck said on KFAN it’s an example of trusting players and then joked, “It’s his fault if it doesn’t work.”
