P.J. Fleck expects Minnesota running back Mohamed Ibrahim to be available for Saturday’s matchup against Purdue, according to a report.

On Monday, Andy Greder of the Pioneer Press reported that Fleck anticipates Ibrahim to play in this weekend’s matchup against the Boilermakers. The freshman running back left Minnesota’s game against Illinois with an unnamed ailment and had just one second half carry.

Ibrahim finished the day with 98 yards and two touchdowns on 18 touches.

With injuries to Rodney Smith and Shannon Brooks, Ibrahim has taken over as the primary ball carrier for the Gophers this season. He’s appeared in six games, tallying 562 yards and five touchdowns on 107 carries.

Ibrahim has eclipsed the 100-yard mark twice this season, once in the season opener against New Mexico State and in the Oct. 13 matchup against Ohio State. The freshman had a career day against the Buckeyes, totaling 157 yards and two scores.

He earned B1G Freshman of the Week honors for his performance in Columbus.

Minnesota is 4-5 entering Saturday’s game against Purdue with just one B1G victory. The Gophers have not lost to the Boilermakers in Minneapolis since 2007.
