Miami reportedly focused on Minnesota assistant for next defensive coordinator
Miami parted ways with defensive coordinator Lance Guidry after 2 seasons.
Now, the Hurricanes are reportedly looking to the Big Ten for his replacement, with Minnesota DC Corey Hetherman a lead candidate, according to 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz.
Hetherman joined the Minnesota staff ahead of the 2024 season after 2 seasons at Rutgers. Under him, the Golden Gophers allowed 285.7 yards per game, fifth-lowest in FBS, and 16.9 points, the ninth-fewest in the country. That’s a massive turnaround from 2023, when they yielded 368.4 yards and 26.7 points an outing.
Prior to Minnesota, Hetherman was linebackers coach at Rutgers for a pair of seasons and defensive coordinator at James Madison for 3 seasons. While at James Madison, he led the No. 2 ranked defense in FCS in 2021 and was named the AFCA FCS Assistant Coach of the Year for his effort.

Miami opened the 2024 season at 9-0 and in position for a possible College Football Playoff berth, but dropped 3 of its last 4 to finish 10-3 — including a 42-41 loss to Iowa State in the Pop-Tarts Bowl.
The Hurricanes were second in the ACC with 327.2 yards allowed per game but gave up 25.3 points, 9th in the conference. They allowed 31 or more points 6 times.
