Minnesota athletic director Mark Coyle has reportedly reached a contract extension with the university to stay in his position for a few more years.

Per the Star Tribune, Coyle has agreed to a 2-year contract extension as the athletic director for the Golden Gophers. That will keep the AD in his post through 2028 with continued raises.

The new contract is still pending approval from the Board of Regents. That group is scheduled to meet next Friday, per the report.Mark Co

Coyle’s base salary in 2020-21 was $975,000. He receives an annual base salary escalator of 2.5%. That will increase to 3% in the final three years of the amended contract.

Coyle has been the athletic director at Minnesota since May 2016. He has been responsible for hiring head football coach PJ Fleck and head men’s basketball coach Ben Johnson, as well as several other Gopher athletic leaders.

Coyle is expected to comment on the extension following its approval.
