Minnesota has officially set its 2022 football schedule.

On Tuesday morning, the Golden Gophers announced that they have added FCS opponent Western Illinois to the non-conference slate, completing its schedule for 2022 season. The matchup is scheduled for Sept. 10 at TCF Bank Stadium.

In addition to Western Illinois, Minnesota will also host New Mexico State (Sept. 1) and Colorado (Sept. 17) in non-conference matchups that year. The Gophers open with five straight home games and will host seven opponents total at TCF Bank Stadium that fall.

Looking at the 2022 schedule, the final five weeks serve as a brutal stretch for Minnesota. The Gophers will play Nebraska and Michigan State on the road, followed by a home contest against Northwestern. To close out the year, Minnesota travels to Penn State and Wisconsin.

It may be four years away, but that final stretch is a gauntlet for the Gophers.

The 2022 season will mark the first time since 1933 Minnesota has played the first five games on its home field.
